Health Department: Deep Coriander Powder Recalled
The Kane County Health Department is advising residents that Chetak New York L.L.C. of Edison, NJ is recalling 300 jars of 14.1-ounce “Deep Coriander Powder” because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.
No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem, but the recalled “Deep Coriander Powder” jars were distributed nationwide in retail store from July 30 to Aug. 1. The product comes in a 14.1-ounce clear plastic jar marked with the UPC number 011433134347 on the rear of the package.
Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e. infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
Consumers who have purchased 14.1-ounce jars of “Deep Coriander Powder” are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at (973) 835-1906, Monday through Friday from 9 am – 5 p.m. EST.
