The Kane County Health Department will be accepting public comments on proposed changes to Chapter 11.5 Health and Sanitation of the Kane County Code during the comment period from now through midnight Sept. 15, 2015.

The Health Department proposes to amend the Chapter 11.5 Health and Sanitation Code to reflect changes in the Illinois law requiring food worker training, to assure the fee schedule meets the needs of the customer and addresses emerging vendor/food service establishment needs, and to update definitions and terms in the ordinance.

Removal of Kane County Food Worker Training Requirement

This section is longer needed due to recent changes in Illinois law requiring food worker training that supersede it.

Fee schedule adjustment to better meet the needs of the customer

The current, cumbersome charitable not-for-profit waiver process is replaced with a clear fee schedule so that customers know their fee amount at the point of permit application. Fees are added for shared kitchens; supplemental kitchens; supplemental outdoor kitchens, bars, smokers, and grills; and for special needs such as “free to the public” events “sampling only” permits, and temporary fundraising events.

Addition of Shared Kitchens

The ordinance now addresses the growing public interest in the use of shared kitchen space.

Update of Definitions and Terms

Ordinance language and terms reflect current practice and the changes noted above.
