Identify Trees in the Fall at This Hands-On Program

Have you ever strolled through one of Kane County’s great forest preserves and wondered what the heck kind of tree you’re looking at? If you’re at all like me, it happens way too often.

Now there’s an easy and fun way to learn to identify trees in the fall, during a “Learn from the Experts” nature program from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19.

You’ll learn the basics of tree identification and gain experience in identifying trees, during “Fall Tree Identification,” Saturday, Sept. 19, from 1-3 p.m. at the Rutland Forest Preserve, located at 41W230 Big Timber Road, Hampshire.

This class will begin with an introduction to basic plant morphology needed for the tree identification. You’ll take a walk on the wooded trails to learn the common hardwood trees and learn several methods of tree identification.

Learn from the Experts programs are for ages 18 and up. This program series is cosponsored by the Forest Preserve District of Kane County, the St. Charles Park District and the Geneva Park District.
