Power Restored in Downtown Aurora After Overnight Electrical Fire
The downtown portion of the City of Lights was without any for several hours Monday night.
As of Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2015, power has been restored and all streets are open for through-traffic in downtown Aurora following a Monday-evening electrical fire in an underground Commonwealth Edison vault at Downer and Stolp.
The city of Aurora reported at around 6:15 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17, that an electrical fire resulted in a power outage for much of the downtown and asked residents to avoid the area, if possible. At the onset, 150 units were without power, Downer Place was closed between River and Broadway, and Stolp was closed between Galena and Benton.
By 9:15 p.m., power was restored to 94 percent of the units, including the Paramount Theatre. The nine units without power were on a small stretch on the north side of Downer Place near Stolp Avenue.
ComEd crews worked throughout the night to make repairs and restore power to 100 percent of the affected area, city of Aurora spokesperson Dan Ferrelli said.
