Roscoe Man Guilty of 2013 Strongarm Robbery

A Winnebago County man has been convicted for robbing a man he knew after the two had arranged to meet for a debt payment.

Jose G. Trujillo, 33, of the 104 block of Metal Mark Lane, Roscoe, Ill., was convicted Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2015, by a Kane County jury, of aggravated robbery, a Class 1 felony.

The jury deliberated for about an hour before it reached the verdict.

Prosecutors presented evidence that the victim had arranged to meet Trujillo in the parking lot of a restaurant in the 19N block of Route 20, Hampshire, so Trujillo could repay $100 to the victim. When Trujillo arrived, at about 4:30 p.m., he pulled his car into a parking place near the victim’s car, exited his car and approached the victim’s car. Trujillo then leaned into the victim’s car, implied that he had a handgun, told the victim he wouldn’t pay him, threatened to harm the victim’s family and demanded money. The victim gave Trujillo $145 cash from his wallet, and then Trujillo reached into the car and grabbed a money envelope that contained $600 cash, said, “Later, bro,” and fled in his car onto Interstate 90.

Circuit Judge Susan Clancy Boles set Trujillo’s next court appearance for 1:30 p.m. Oct. 14, 2015, for motions and sentencing. Trujillo faces a sentence of probation or between four and 15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Trujillo remains free on $30,000 bond.

The case was prosecuted by Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Alexander Bederka and Mark D. Stajdohar.
