16th Circuit Chooses Susan Clancy Boles as Next Chief Judge

Kane County’s next chief judge has deep roots in the community she serves.

The judges of the 16th Judicial Circuit announced Thursday the election of Susan Clancy Boles, a St. Charles High School graduate and presiding circuit judge, as chief judge. Her first day in the office will be Monday, Dec. 7, 2015.

16th Judicial Circuit logoBoles was appointed to the position of associate judge in March 2007. In January 2009, she was appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court to the position of circuit judge, filling the vacancy of R. Peter Grometer, who had retired. She ran for and won election as a circuit judge from the Fourth Sub Circuit in November 2010.

Boles, who currently presides over a Criminal Felony Court at the Kane County Judicial Center in St. Charles, is a graduate of St. Charles High School, Vanderbilt University and Valparaiso University School of Law. An attorney since 1990, she was initially associated with the Chicago Law Firm of Rooks, Pitts, and Poust. In 1993 she joined the litigation firm of Clancy Law Offices in St. Charles, where she was a partner until her appointment as an associate judge.

Boles will be the second woman to hold the position of chief judge in Kane County, following in the footsteps of 16th Circuit Judge Judith Brawka.
