There are nine locations in Kane County where you can drop off unused and unwanted prescription drugs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, as part of DEA Drug Take Back Day.

DEA Acting Administrator Chuck Rosenberg said the 10th National Prescription Drug Take-Back will take place Sept. 26 in every state but Pennsylvania and Delaware, where the event took place on Sept. 12. As with the previous nine Take-Back events, sites will be set up throughout communities nationwide so local residents can return their unwanted, unneeded, or expired prescription drugs for safe disposal.

Collection sites in every local community can be found by going to www.dea.gov and are posted below. The chart below is from Sept. 24, but the DEA site will be continuously updated with new take-back locations, so don’t hesitate to check again any time prior to Saturday.

The National Prescription Drug Take-Back addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Many Americans are not aware that medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Drug abuse remains prevalent across the country. An oral drug test in the workplace can only go so far when deterring against drug abuse. If you have found that a loved one is misusing or abusing the drugs in your home, then you need to try and get them help. Perhaps they could go to somewhere like this drug rehab in New Jersey, or even a rehab centre that is closer to home. Whatever you decide, just be there for that person and support them. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are at alarming rates, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show that many abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, many Americans do not know how to properly dispose of their unused medicine, often flushing them down the toilet or throwing them away – both potential safety and health hazards.

“Prescription drug abuse is a huge problem and this is a great opportunity for folks around the country to help reduce the threat,” Rosenberg said. “Please clean out your medicine cabinet and make your home safe from drug theft and abuse.”

In the previous nine Take-Back events nationwide, 4,823,251 pounds, or 2,411 tons of drugs were collected.

Got Drugs? Get Rid of Them! We’re part of the National Drug Take-Back on Sept. 26. Turn in your expired, unused, and unwanted prescription medicines so they can be safely disposed of from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the APD Front Desk, 1200 E. Indian Trail.

Expired, unwanted and unused medications are a potential source of supply that fuels drug abuse. More than 70 percent of people abusing prescription pain relievers got them from relatives or friends.

The drugs are collected no questions asked.

Campton Hills

The Campton Hills Police are Taking Back Unwanted Prescription Drugs September 26, at the Campton Hills Village Hall.

On Sept.26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Campton Hills Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public its tenth opportunity in five years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Bring your pills for disposal to the Campton Hills Village Hall at 40W270 LaFox Rd. (The DEA cannot accept liquids or needles or sharps, only pills or patches.) The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked

Carpentersville Police Taking Back Unwanted Prescription Drugs

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 26 the Carpentersville Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public its 10th opportunity in five years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Bring your medications for disposal to the Carpentersville Police Department at 1200 L.W. Besinger Dr, Carpentersville, IL 60110.

The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. No illegal drugs, liquids, or needles will be accepted.
