UPDATE: Bicyclist Killed Riding in Group on Aurora’s Far West Side
Aurora police are investigating the death of a 66-year-old Des Plaines woman who was killed after colliding with a vehicle while riding her bicycle with a group of people on Aurora’s Far West Side.
The crash, which occurred shortly before 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015, on Densmore Road at the Virgil Gillman Trail, claimed the life of Lonnie Wilkinson of the 1400 block of Fourth Avenue, DesPlaines.
The preliminary investigation indicates that Wilkinson was riding a bicycle west on the trail when she was hit by a southbound car being driven by a 48-year-old Sugar Grove man as she was crossing Densmore. Aurora Fire Department paramedics took her to an Aurora hospital, where she was pronounced deceased at 11:36 a.m.
No tickets were issued. Wilkinson was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. There were no outward signs of alcohol or drug use at the scene. Neither the driver of the Altima, nor his two passengers, male teens ages 14 and 15, were injured. The ongoing investigation is being conducted by Aurora Police Traffic Division investigators.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 8, at the Kane County Coroner’s Office in Geneva.
