IDOT Will Close Route 31 in Elgin to Repair Rail Crossing

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that Illinois 31 will be closed the week of Sept. 28 for repairs to the railroad crossing south of Chicago Street in Elgin.

The closure will take effect, weather permitting, from 7 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28, until 7 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3.

Screen Shot 2015-09-24 at 8.13.08 AM A detour will be posted. Northbound Illinois 31 will be routed east on U.S. 20, north on Illinois 25 and west on Chicago Street/Highland Avenue to reconnect with Illinois 31. Southbound traffic will follow the reverse route.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
