The Kane County Recycles event from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015, includes latex paint and document shredding, and that’s a big deal.

It’s big because those events happen just quarterly. Saturday’s event is held in the usual place, 540 S Randall in St. Charles.

Two requests: Please do not arrive early and don’t try to do business shredding here. This event is for residents only.

One piece of good news: Volunteers unload for you.

You can recycle electronics — computers, keyboards, laptops, printers, televisions (any size or age), stereos, cell phones, microwaves, Christmas lights, and more. A complete list of accepted items, and more information can be found here.

Kane County Recycles takes books of any age and condition for reuse or recycling.Liquid latex paint is the only item that has a recycling fee per container, payable by the resident with cash or check. It is $2 per quart, $3.50 per gallon, and $10 per 5-gallon bucket. Latex paint is non-toxic but difficult to dispose of normally because you have to dry it out before placing it in your landfill trash. However, it can be easily recycled into new products with no drying out necessary! No oil based product will be accepted.

Bring your confidential documents in paper bags or boxes. Limit is four boxes. Again, this is for residents only. More guidelines can be found here.

Kane County Recycles does not accept hazardous waste or large household appliances, for example washers and refrigerators.
