Rochelle Woman Dies After Car Collides With Semi on Plank Road
A 67-year-old Rochelle woman was killed Wednesday (Sept. 23, 2015) after her car collided with a semi-trailer truck on Plank Road.
The Kane County Sheriff’s Office reports that Faith Huml of the 6000 block of S. Center Road, Rochelle, was driving a 2005 GMC Yukon east on Plank Road near the intersection of Switzer Road in unincorporated Plato Township a little before 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, when the Yukon for an unknown reason left the road, crossing the oncoming lane of traffic to the south side of Plank Road. The Yukon re-entered Plank Road and struck a westbound 2004 Freightliner semi-tractor driven by Paul Holcomb, 58, of Rockford, reports said.
The semi and Yukon both left the road and came to a rest on the south side of Plank Road. At some point, the Yukon caught fire, reports said.
Huml was pronounced deceased at the scene, the Sheriff’s Office reports. Holcomb was transported to Presence Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin with non-life-threatening injuries. There were no passengers in either vehicle.
Kane County Sheriff’s detectives and members of the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash. No tickets have been issued.
As of 9:30 p.m. Plank Road remained closed between Muirhead Road and Switzer Road while the crash was being investigated.
