Union Pacific Bridge Work Closes Route 31 Through Sept. 25

A segment of Route 31 in Geneva is closed this week through Friday, Sept. 25, as Union Pacific makes repairs to the railroad overpass bridge.

Route 31 was shut down in both directions Monday and will remain closed until 6 p.m. Sept. 25, weather permitting.

Local traffic heading north on Route 31 toward downtown Geneva can take Third Street and turn east on Fulton Street to return to Route 31. The directions will be vice-versa for those driving south on Route 31.

The Illinois Department of Transportation will be detouring trucks and non-local traffic on Route 31 by utilizing Fabyan Parkway, Route 25 and State Street (Route 38).Union Pacific’s construction hours will be between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.

The city’s daily fee commuter parking lot located off of Route 31 just south of the railroad tracks will remain open during the project. For more information, contact Geneva Assistant Public Works Director Brian Schiber at 630-232-1501 or email him at bschiber@geneva.il.us.
