Upgraded Felony Charges in Aurora Death Investigation

A 24-year-old Aurora man faces an upgraded felony charge in connection with a death investigation being conducted by Aurora Police concerning the shooting death of the man’s 25-year-old friend.

Adolfo Ramirez of the 1300 block of Monomoy Street was arrested today (Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015) on a charge of armed violence in connection with the death of Angel G. Reyna of the 400 block of North View Street, Aurora. The charge is a Class-X felony and calls for enhanced sentencing if Ramirez is convicted. He had already been charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance in connection with the same incident and had been released after posting bail.

Ramirez and Reyna were apparently drinking and ingesting cocaine from the late night hours of Sept. 18 into the early morning hours of Sept. 19 inside Ramirez’s apartment. Charging documents indicate that Ramirez was allegedly in possession of a loaded .22-caliber revolver and said he had shown Reyna how to use the gun before it went off. Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the 7:12 a.m. shooting which they believe may be accidental.

Reyna suffered a single gunshot wound to the chest, was transported to an Aurora hospital by Aurora Fire Department Paramedics and pronounced dead at 7:56 a.m.

Ramirez and Reyna were the only two people inside the kitchen where the shooting occurred.

Ramirez is expected to appear at morning bond call Thursday.
