Another great weekend coming up in Kane County!
Here are six suggestions of things to do, among so many.
(1) Festival of the Vine in Geneva
One of great Geneva festivals of the year is coming up this weekend.
From Sept. 11-13, downtown Geneva hosts the Festival of the Vine, which includes a really terrific “Taste of Geneva” type event called “Flavor Fare” that lets you sample treats from some of the city’s terrific restaurants, the usual great assortment of entertainment, a bunch of culinary events (chocolate paired with wine — love that idea), one of the region’s finest Fine Arts and Crafts shows and this year a preview of the Geneva Film Festival.

(2) Elgin Historic House Tour
In celebration of historic homes, the Gifford Park Association will hold its 34th Annual Historic House Walk Tour on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015, in Elgin. Each year, the House Tour features a different historic neighborhood of Elgin. In 2014, the tour featured the Spring/Douglas Historic District. This year, it’s the NE neighborhood around River Bluff and Cedar. Click here for pictures of the houses featured this year.
If you participate, wear comfortable shoes and allow yourself the full day to see all of the homes. Registration is from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the tour going from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Advance tickets are $15, day of Tour are $20.

(3) Fiestas Patrias in Aurora
Fiestas Patrias celebrates the sound, culture and taste of Mexico, Spain, the Caribbean and Central and South America. From the delicious foods to the variety of musical acts to the children’s play area, there is something for everyone. The 2015 Fiestas Patrias is set for Sunday, Sept. 13, at RiverEdge Park in downtown Aurora.

(4) St. Charles Jazz Weekend
A full weekend of jazz started Thursday night and runs through Sunday night in downtown St. Charles.
Venues throughout St. Charles will host amazingly talented musicians. Be sure to check out Grammy-Award-winning Frank Catalano at different venues on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

(5) Burlington Open Air Market
The Burlington Open Air Market is celebrating its second season. The Saturday, Sept. 12, event will be the second to last of 2015. The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday on Water Street, behind the Old Second Bank in Burlington. in Burlington!

(6) Beer & BBQ @ Bowes
Bowes Creek Country Club again will be the beautiful setting for the fifth annual Beer & BBQ @ Bowes fundraiser, benefitting the Elgin Recreation Youth Scholarship Fund. The Youth Scholarship Fund was created to provide financial assistance to young people in Elgin whose families could not afford to register them for recreation programs.
This family friendly event will take place from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept.12. It will feature great food including rib tasting, BBQ sandwiches, root beer floats, hot dogs, and tasting of craft beers and home brew beers provided by the Silverado Brew Club. For children there will be games, face painting, a clown and family games that take place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
At 6 p.m. musical group, Just Enuff, will take the stage, providing music that appeals to all age groups.
Tickets purchased in advance are $30 for the Beer Sampler Package, $25 for the Teetotaler Package, and $10 for the Kids Fun Package. The day of the event the cost will increase by $5. Tickets can be purchased online at the city of Elgin’s website or at The Centre of Elgin, Porters Pub and Bowes Creek Country Club.
Last year more than 800 Elgin children were able to participate in recreation programs through the Youth Scholarship Fund. For more information call 847-931-6127.
