33 Inmates Get Into Fight at in Jail Cell Block — 15 Charged

About 33 detainees in the Kane County Adult Justice Center got into a fight last week, according to a press release issued Friday, Oct. 2, by the Kane County Sheriff’s Office.

Fifteen of those inmates face charges related to the incident and authorized by the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office — 11 for aggravated battery and four for resisting a correctional officer.

According to the release, the fight started at around 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, and involved 33 of the 63 detainees in the cell block.

“The lone officer assigned to that cell block called for assistance,” the press release said. “Additional corrections officers responded to the cell block, and they were able to take control of the incident.”

The release said the incident lasted about five minutes, from the time the officer working the cell block called for assistance to the time all the inmates were secured in their cells.

No officers were injured and only a few of the inmates involved in the altercation suffered from some small scratches and bruises from the fight, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Upon completion of the investigation, the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized the following charges against the following 15 inmates:
