Aurora Man Sentenced to 8 Years for Possessing Child Pornography

An Aurora man will go to prison for possessing child pornography.

Kyle D. Muench, 37,, of the 500 block of South Lake Street, Aurora, on Thursday agreed to plead guilty to two counts of possession of child pornography, each a Class 2 felony, in exchange for a sentence of eight years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Circuit Judge James C. Hallock accepted the plea.

Prosecutors presented evidence that sometime around May 19, 2015, Muench’s former employer found Muench’s coat at the Montgomery business after his employment had been terminated. A USB flash drive was found in the pocket of that coat. The drive contained 11 videos of child pornography. Montgomery police and the U.S. Secret Service obtained and served a search warrant at Muench’s Aurora home based on the contents of the USB drive.

At his home they found more child pornography in the form of videos and still images on additional electronic devices. When questioned, Muench acknowledged that he had downloaded the child pornography and saved it on his USB flash drive.

The sentence is four years on each count to be served consecutively.

Muench is eligible for day-for-day sentencing. He receives credit for at least 84 days served in the Kane County jail, where he had been held since his arrest in lieu of $250,000 bail. Bond was revoked upon conviction.

In addition to the prison term, Muench must register for life as a sexual offender in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.

The case was investigated by the Montgomery Police Department with assistance from the U.S. Secret Service, which conducted the computer forensics.

The case was prosecuted by Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Nicholas Gaeke.
