Chicago Man Sentenced ‘In Absentia’ for Weapons Crimes Still At Large

A Chicago man who fled while free on bond has been sentenced “in absentia” for multiple weapons crimes and drunken driving.

Aleksandr Kirilyuk, 51, last address of the 3300 block of North Long Avenue, Chicago, was sentenced in absentia Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015, by Associate Judge Clint Hull  to 15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Kirilyuk was convicted in absentia Aug. 10, 2015, by a Kane County jury, of armed violence with a firearm, a Class X felony, armed violence with a stun gun, a Class X felony, DUI, a Class 2 felony, and two counts of possession of a fraudulent identification card, each Class 4 felonies.

Prosecutors presented evidence that at about 8 p.m. June 22, 2014, Kirilyuk was stopped on Interstate 88 near Farnsworth Avenue for speeding and other traffic violations by an Illinois State Police trooper. The trooper noted multiple signs of alcoholic intoxication, as well as an open container of alcohol. Kirilyuk failed standardized field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest.

A lawful search of the car revealed a charged and functional stun gun, as well as a 9mm Beretta 92FS handgun with a threaded barrel for a silencer attachment, an extended capacity magazine, and ammunition, all of which were accessible. Kirilyuk had on his person a fraudulent Illinois driver’s license. In addition Kirilyuk has multiple prior convictions for DUI.

According to Illinois law, Kirilyuk is eligible for day-for-day sentencing. He receives credit for time served in the Kane County jail.

Kirilyuk was last in court April 30, 2015, when his trial date was set. He was free on $20,000 bond at the time. He failed to appear for a hearing June 12, 2015, and a warrant for his arrest was issued. Anyone with information about Kirilyuk or his location should call 911.

The case was prosecuted by Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Alex Bederka and David Belshan.
