UPDATE: Kaneville, Kaneland Schools on Alert After Carjackers Crash on I-88

4PM UPDATE

The Kane County Sheriff’s Office and Illinois State Police are asking residents in the Kaneville area to be on the alert for two men believed to have been involved in a carjacking and crash on I-88 early Tuesday morning, Oct. 13, 2015.

According to a Sheriff’s Office press release, a vehicle carrying three men and stolen during a carjacking in Chicago crashed at around 12:10 a.m. on I-88 near Dauberman Road in the village of Kaneville. A report from the Daily Herald said the passenger vehicle driven by the carjackers collided a semi-trailer truck.

State police took one subject into custody at the scene, but two black men, one with dreadlocks, fled on foot and are reported to be at large.

At about 5:30 a.m., sheriff’s deputies responded to the village of Kaneville, where a resident reported that she saw two suspicious people near a park in town. Deputies checked the area and were unable to locate anyone.

At around 11:45 a.m., the Sheriff’s Office reported that a review of surveillance video from a Kaneville business revealed that two people were in the park at around 5:30 a.m., but they were white females and were not the two subjects that fled form the stolen car on I-88 Tuesday morning.

As of 4 p.m. Tuesday, Kane County sheriff’s deputies have not located the two subjects and no additional reports of suspicious persons have been received by Sheriff’s Office.

Kane County sheriff’s deputies have increased patrols in the Kaneville area and notified school officials with Kaneland Unit District 302.

Anyone who sees a suspicious person is asked to call 911.
