The Kirk Road bridge near Fifth-Third Bank Ballpark is getting an upgrade, and you’ll have a chance on Wednesday to see what the plans look like.

The Kane County Division of Transportation is hosting a public meeting to provide an overview of proposed improvements scheduled for Kirk Road from Cherry Lane to IL Route 38 in Geneva.

People are invited to the open house-style meeting being held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2015, at The Well Church, 33W835 Cherry Lane, Geneva. The Kirk Road bridge, built in 1974 spanning the Union Pacific railroad tracks, is in need of significant maintenance.

The purpose of the meeting is to provide an overview of the Kirk Road bridge preliminary engineering and environmental study, present the preliminary preferred alternative and seek public input. The comprehensive study included an analysis of existing roadway conditions, capacity at turn lanes, median and lane widths, and intersection improvements at Route 38.

A continuous audio-visual presentation will provide an overview of the study at the open house. People will have an opportunity to view preliminary construction drawings, exhibits, provide comments and meet with KDOT and project study team representatives.

In addition to seeking feedback on the preliminary alternative, KDOT is seeking public comments on the use of property from the Forest Preserve District of Kane County for the associated Kirk Road improvements. The property is owned and operated by the Forest Preserve and is protected by the U.S. Department of Transportation Act of 1966. Kane County intends to seek a de minimis impact finding from the Federal Highway Administration based on the project not adversely affecting the features, attributes or activities covered in the act.
