Montgomery Announces Ribbon Cutting For Mill Street Bridge
Aurora recently celebrated its grand reopening of a bridge over the Fox River. Now, nearby Montgomery is getting into the act with its own woo-hoo moment.
The village of Montgomery will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly renovated Mill Street Bridge at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, 2015. The ribbon cutting marks the official completion of the project and reopening of a bridge that had been closed to traffic for about two months.
In July, the Village Board had approved a contract for Phase II (design) and Phase III (construction) engineering services for substructure repairs, deck scarification and overlay for the existing Mill Street Bridge over the Fox River. A contract for the Mill Street Bridge construction was awarded to MYS Incorporated in the amount of $431,753.
The work was completed on time and included deck repairs and painting. The project will include bridge deck scarification, bridge deck latex concrete overlay, structural repair of concrete and concrete coating. During the work, Mill Street was closed from River Street to IL Route 25, and all traffic used a posted detour route via the Ashland Avenue Bridge to the north.
Construction improvements were funded by the village’s new 1 percent sales tax for infrastructure improvements that was approved by voters in 2014 and which began to be collected on July 1, 2015. This is the first infrastructure project to be completed in the village using the new sales tax revenues.
