Switch Replacement Impacts BNSF Rail Line, A.M. Rush Hour Oct. 19-23
BNSF Railway is performing an eight-week, $3 million project to replace 15 track switches in Cicero, a key point along the busy Chicago-to-Aurora route used by Metra commuter service. The switches are a critical piece of infrastructure that allow for the flexibility of BNSF express trains to pass local trains.
Due to the scheduled rail work, a five-minute construction schedule will be in place from Oct. 19 through Oct. 23 for morning peak-period trains.
The construction schedule is available here and a screenshot is embedded in this article. Customers are encouraged to review the construction schedule for more detailed information on the trains impacted by the project.
“Tracks, ties and switches are the foundation of the railroad,” said Metra Executive Director/CEO Don Orseno. “Ultimately, our customers will enjoy the benefits of more reliable service when this critical infrastructure work is complete this year.”
Construction notices for all Metra projects, including temporary changes to train schedules, can be found here or in the Service Updates section.
