Clear the Streets! Aurora’s 49-Foot Christmas Tree on the Move Wednesday

The city of Aurora has a cool sort of holiday tradition.

Each year, a resident donates his or her tree, and the city sets it up as the official Aurora Christmas Tree at North Island Center, 8 E. Galena Boulevard.

The 2015 official City of Aurora Christmas Tree will be moved tomorrow, Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2015, and stretches of Galena Boulevard and Fordham Avenue will be closed as crews transport the tree.

North Fordham Avenue from New Haven to California Avenue will be closed for about 30 minutes beginning at 8 a.m. Thursday as the 49-foot spruce tree is prepared for transportation from 882 N. Fordham to its display site at North Island Center, 8 E. Galena Boulevard

The travel route is south on Fordham, east on Illinois Avenue, south on Elmwood Avenue and east on Galena Boulevard to North Island Center. The route will remain open to traffic until the tree reaches the North Island Center.

The one block of Galena Boulevard from Stolp to Broadway will be closed from approximately 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. as crews unload and erect the tree. Traffic on that block will then be reduced to just one lane until approximately 11:30 a.m

In the event of very windy conditions or other complications, plans will be moved to Thursday, Nov. 5.

This year’s tree was donated by Sandy Bohr, owner of the property at 882 N. Fordham.
