Former East Aurora School Employee Charged With Sexually Assaulting Minor
A former East Aurora School District 131 employee faces criminal charges for having sexual contact with a minor.
Jose Corona, 31, of the 1300 block of South Glen Court, Aurora, is charged with six counts of criminal sexual assault, a Class 1 felony, and one count of battery, a Class A misdemeanor.
Prosecutors allege that between Aug. 15, 2015, and Nov. 12, 2015, Corona had sexual contact with the victim. The week of Nov. 9, 2015, the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services received a report about an inappropriate relationship between Corona and the victim and began to investigate with the Kane County Child Advocacy Center and assistance from the Aurora Police Department.
The victim was younger than 18 years old at the time of the assault. The felony charges reflect that Corona was in a position of trust and/or authority over the victim.
In addition, sometime before Oct. 22, 2015, Corona made inappropriate contact with a minor, which resulted in the misdemeanor charge.
Corona was employed by East Aurora School District 131 during the time of all of the unlawful activity.
Corona was taken into custody by Aurora police on Nov. 13, 2015.
Corona appeared Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015, in Kane County bond court. Bail was set at $100,000. Corona must post $10,000 to be released on bond while the charges are pending. His next court appearance is set for 9 a.m. Nov. 19, 2015, in front of Circuit Judge James C. Hallock in Courtroom 313 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
If he posts bond, Corona is to have no direct or indirect contact with the victims, and no unsupervised contact with anyone younger than 18 outside of his immediate family.
The case remains under investigation. Anyone with additional information about Corona or this case should call their local police department, the Aurora Police Dept. at (630) 256-5500 or the Kane County Child Advocacy Center at (630) 208-5160.
If convicted of the most serious charges, Corona faces a minimum sentence of four years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. In addition, Corona would have to register for life as a sexual offender in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.
The charges against Corona are not proof of guilt. Corona is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office will have no additional comment about this case at this time. Any questions regarding Corona’s employment should be directed to East Aurora School District 131.
