How Kane Schools Are Honoring Veterans on Nov. 11
Veterans Day is a day of remembrance, a day to honor the men and women who have fought to preserve our freedom. Kane County schools celebrate this special holiday with activities and ceremonies to help children understand the significance of Veterans Day.
According to the district websites, below is a sampling of upcoming Veterans Day events from each school district in Kane County. Click on the links to find out what’s happening in your school or school district.
District 300
Dundee Middle School will host a Veterans Day salute from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11.
District U-46
Eighteen schools in U-46 are honoring veterans and active members of the armed forces Monday, Nov. 9 through Thursday, Nov. 12.
District 301
All schools in Burlington Central have published a program to be shared with the community. It includes the names of veterans and current friends, family and graduates serving in the armed forces.
District 302
Kaneland High School will be featuring a special display of community veterans.
Harter Middle School will host an assembly in the morning. An RSVP is required for this assembly.
Blackberry Creek Elementary will host a Wall of Honor, as well as a morning assembly.
John Shields Elementary will host a musical salute in the afternoon.
John Stewart Elementary will feature a Veteran’s Bulletin Board and Flag Raising Ceremony at 8:50 a.m.
McDole Elementary will host a continental breakfast for McDole Family veterans. RSVP is required.
District 303
St. Charles North High School holds its ninth annual Veterans Celebration Concert.
District 304
Geneva Middle School South and North will hold their 19th annual Veterans Day ceremonies. The ceremony draws 100 local veterans each year. It starts at 8:45 a.m., and will be held at both middle schools in the South Cafeteria and the North Blue Gym, respectively.
District 101
Grace McWayne Elementary School — Veteran’s Day Assembly from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11.
Louise White Elementary School — Veteran’s Day Assembly 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11.
Alice Gustafson Elementary School — Veteran’s Day Assembly, 9:05 a.m. to 9:20 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11.
H.C. Storm Elementary School — Veteran’s Day Assembly, 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11.
Batavia High School — Flag-Raising Ceremony, 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11.
District 129
At West Aurora High School, bagpipers will greet school buses at 8 a.m., which will follow with a 90-minute presentation on Friday, Nov. 13.
District 131
Districtwide celebration on Monday, Nov. 9.
Simmons Middle School — Veterans Day ceremony, 2 p.m. Tuesday Nov. 10.
