Access to Delnor Hospital in Geneva will be affected by upcoming traffic-signal-replacement work on Randall Road.

Starting Nov. 18, 2015, Kane County Division of Transportation contractors will remove and replace of traffic signal mast arms and equipment on Randall Road at Keslinger Road and Williamsburg Avenue. The new signals will include flashing yellow arrows that are designed to improve traffic safety and reduce the number of serious accidents at intersections.

Randall Road traffic will be allowed to flow without stopping, but side streets in the area will be closed from 8 a.m. to about 3 p.m. on the days that work is in progress at each intersection. Work at the Keslinger Road intersection is expected to start Wednesday, Nov. 18, and work on the Williamsburg Avenue is expected to start Monday, Nov. 23.

Motorists will not be allowed to turn off of Randall Road during the closures of the side streets and are advised to use Peck Road and IL Route 38 as alternate routes. Alternate routes are shown in yellow line of the map embedded in this article.

During the installation, access to Delnor Hospital will be allowed at both the north and south entrances by traffic from west of Randall Road.

• While Keslinger Road is closed, access to the Delnor Hospital complex from Randall Road will be available at Williamsburg Avenue.
• While Williamsburg Avenue is closed, access to the Delnor Hospital Complex from Randall Road will be available from Keslinger Road.

Only one intersection will be affected at a time in order to minimize the impact to motorists. Changeable message boards will be placed in several locations to warn motorists to the intersection closings.

On the day of the closure, the process will include setting up barricades and traffic control to prevent access to the side street, placement of new wiring and equipment on the mast arms, adjustment of the wiring in the Traffic Control Cabinet, testing of the new equipment and removal of existing equipment.

Although Randall Road will be kept up, temporary lane closures will be required to accomplish this work. KDOT asks that motorists watch for flaggers and workers while traveling through the construction zone. Motorists should expect delays, increased travel times during the process, and are advised to consider alternate routes during the work.

About Flashing Yellow Arrows

The flashing yellow arrows will allow motorists to turn left after yielding to oncoming traffic and pedestrians. Traffic waiting to turn left will receive the protected left turn with a green arrow while oncoming traffic has a red light. While both directions of traffic have a green light, motorists waiting to turn left will receive the flashing yellow arrow indicating that they may turn only when it is safe to do so.
