Kane County sheriff’s deputies seized 400 grams of heroin, two handguns and $9,000 in cash during a Veterans Day traffic stop on Illinois 90 in unincorporated Hampshire Township, a Sheriff’s Office press release said.

According to the Friday press release, the Kane County sheriff’s deputy stopped a 2007 Chevrolet Impala that was traveling west on I-90 near IL Route 47 for an equipment violation.

A Kane County K9 unit indicated a potential presence of narcotics inside of the vehicle, and a search of the Impala resulted in the seizure of the following items:

• 400 grams of heroin with a street value of approximately $80,000
• A .45 caliber handgun
• A 9mm handgun
• $9,000 in U.S. currency

The following subjects were in the car at the time of the traffic stop:

• Driver: Jessica Johnson, 29, of Redby, MN
• Passenger: Leo Cook, 31, of Redby, MN
• Passenger: Derek Paddy, 19, of Red, MN

All three subjects were transported to the Kane County Adult Justice Center. The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized the following charges against all three individuals:

• unlawful manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance, a Class X felony;
• unlawful possession of a controlled substance, a Class 1 felony;
• armed violence, a Class X felony.

Bond was set at $800,000 for all three subjects. The charges against Johnson, Cook and Paddy are not proof of guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the State’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
