St. Charles North Grad Makes Top 11 in NBC’s ‘The Voice’

St. Charles North High School graduate Jeffery Austin continues to survive in the NBC reality show “The Voice.”

On Tuesday, performing for Team Gwen (Stefani), Austin sang “Let in Go,” but he’s not about to let go of the competition just yet.

The show airs at 7 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays on NBC.

During this final, live-performance phase of the competition, the Top 12 artists compete each week against each other during a live broadcast. The television audience votes to save their favorite artists. The three artists with the lowest number of votes are eligible for the “Instant Save.” These artists each perform a new song that represents why they should earn the save. Then, America has the opportunity to save their favorite performer by tweeting #VoiceSave along with the artist’s name. The two singers with the lowest number of votes are sent home each week. In the end, one is named “The Voice” and receives the grand prize of a recording contract.

Austin was among the top 11 artists chosen Tuesday night to continue on in the reality TV competition. You can see the path he’s taken to get this far in the screenshot of “Team Gwen” from The Voice website.

About Jeffery Austin

After Jeffery’s father passed away when he was nine years old, Jeffery grew up with his mom, grandparents and brother. During that time, Jeffery pursued music in high school and auditioned for all the school musicals. At 16, with the support of his family, Jeffery came out after years of trying to hide his sexuality. Despite wanting to study music in college, his mom preferred that he take a more stable course. Jeffery majored in communications with an emphasis in advertising. He now works at a public relations firm in New York, but is still itching to do music full-time.
