An apparent drag race between two young drivers on Eola Road over the weekend resulted in a crash with a third vehicle, taking the life of a 49-year Aurora man and seriously injuring his 15-year-old daughter.

Charles D. Siebel Jr., of the 2400 block of Biltmore Circle, Aurora, was pronounced dead at about 3 a.m. today (Monday, Dec. 7, 2015) at Rush Copley Medical Center, where he had been receiving treatment since the Friday-night crash at the intersection of Eola Road and Shenandoah Drive in the Will County section of Aurora.

Siebel was driving his 2004 Toyota Highlander east on Shenandoah at around 10:15 p.m., and stopped at the stop sign at Eola Road. He then attempted to turn north onto Eola, when his vehicle was hit by a 2011 Dodge Charger that was southbound on Eola, apparently traveling at an extremely high rate of speed, according to Aurora police.

Police said it appears that the driver of the Charger, a 16-year-old Auroran, was drag racing with a 20-year-old Plainfield man who was driving a 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix, which was also southbound. The driver of the Grand Prix, who was just south of the other two vehicles at the time of the crash, hit the center median on Eola and ended up in the northbound lanes.

Both Siebel and his daughter had to be extricated from their vehicle by Aurora Fire Department personnel. The 15-year-old girl continues to undergo treatment for serious, but non-life threatening injuries. The 16-year-old suffered minor injuries and the 20-year-old refused medical treatment.

An autopsy is pending on Siebel at the Kane County Coroner’s Office in Geneva.

Charges are pending against the 16- and 20-year-olds; both of whom were alone in their vehicles at the time of the crash.

Aurora Police Department traffic investigators are heading the investigation and working with the Will County State’s Attorney. The area of Eola Road between Shiloh and Shenandoah Drives was closed until approximately 5:30 a.m. Saturday for the investigation.
