Elgin Offers Emergency Loans For State-Funded Human Services
In this holiday season of giving, the city of Elgin is reaching out to help social-service agencies that have been impacted by the state of Illinois budget impasse.
Applications for the city of Elgin’s emergency loan program for state-funded human service agencies will be available at its new Emergency Loan web page starting tomorrow (Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015.) Applications may be submitted through Jan. 8, 2016.
The city will host an informational meeting at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, in the West Conference Room at The Centre of Elgin, 100 Symphony Way. Staff will be available to review the online application process and answer questions.
Eligible human service agencies must be a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in Elgin that serves Elgin residents. Agencies must have a contract with the State of Illinois and be able to demonstrate how operations are jeopardized due to a lack of state payments. While all agencies that meet the above requirements will be considered, priority consideration will be given to those agencies that provide services in the following areas: food, shelter, healthcare, mental health and childcare.
Although there is no cap for loan requests, loan recommendations will be made according to eligibility and in consideration of the $625,000 in total funds available. Documentation will be required to verify submitted invoices and subsequent delinquent payments. As a reference point, agencies will also be asked to confirm whether they have contacted the State of Illinois’ Comptroller’s Office for expedited payments due to hardship.
