Elgin Woman Dies After Driving SUV Into Tyler Creek on Day After Her Birthday
A 31-year-old Elgin woman died Monday after her 2015 Toyota SUV drove into Tyler Creek on the day after her birthday.
According to reports by the Kane County Coroner’s Office and the Elgin Police Department, Erika Galvan of Elgin was apparently driving the SUV on Garden Crescent Drive near Tivoli Place sometime prior to 7:37 a.m. Monday, Dec. 28, 2015, reports said. Her SUV left the roadway and came to rest upside down and almost completely submerged in Tyler Creek.
Elgin firefighters working in the frigid water broke a window and found Galvan alone in the vehicle. A tow truck pulled the SUV out of the water, and Elgin police contacted the Coroner’s Office at around 8:34 a.m.
The crash remains under investigation by the Elgin Police Department, and the cause of death is under investigation by the Kane County Coroner’s Office, pending the results of an autopsy performed on Monday and toxicology samples sent to a forensic laboratory for analysis.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with funeral expenses.
A Courier-News report said Facebook posts showed video of Galvan celebrating her birthday with family on Sunday. The GoFundMe page says she was “dear wife to Jose (Meme) Pasillas and mother to three beautiful handsome boys.”
