Honover Park Man Guilty of Sexual Assault in South Elgin

A Hanover Park man has been convicted of sexually assaulting someone he knew after they parked outside a South Elgin gas station and began to argue.

Juan C. Calderon, 45, of the 1900 block of Evergreen Street, Hanover Park, was convicted late Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015, by a Kane County jury, of two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, each a Class X felony, and domestic battery, a Class 4 felony.

Prosecutors presented evidence that at about 7:30 p.m. Feb. 15, 2014, Calderon and the victim, whom he knew, became embroiled in a heated dispute after they stopped in the parking lot of a gas station in the 1-99 block of Route 25 in South Elgin. Calderon, who was very angry, punched and bit the victim about the head and body, and then sexually assaulted the victim twice. The incident took place in the victim’s pick-up truck, which Calderon was driving.

Circuit Judge James C. Hallock set a hearing date of Feb. 18, 2016, at 1:30 p.m., for motions and sentencing. Calderon faces a sentence of between 12 and 63 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Calderon remains in the Kane County jail, where he had been held since his arrest in lieu of $1.5 million bail. Bond was revoked upon conviction.

The case was prosecuted by Kane County Assistant State’s Attorneys Greg Sams and Nick Gaeke.
