National Weather Service Issues Flood Warning for Parts of Kane County
The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a Flood Warning for the Fox River at Montgomery in Kane County, as well as other nearby rivers in Illinois.
According to the NWS-C, rainfall of about 1 inch and 1.5 inches on the average is resulting in rises on portions of the Fox and DesPlaines rivers.
But the Weather Service also reported that Kane County was particularly hard hit. An Elburn station reported the most rainfall in Northern Illinois during the 48-hour period that ended at 10 a.m. Tuesday (Dec. 14, 2015) — 2.67 inches.
The warning was issued just before 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15, 2015, for the Fox River at Montgomery through Wednesday morning.
As of 9 a.m. Monday, the stage was 12.9 feet — just short of the 13.0 flood stage. The NWS-C says the fiver will rise above flood stage this morning and rise above flood stage this afternoon, probably to about 13.1 feet. There will be minor lowland flooding near the river, and it’s possible motorists will see some flooded roads.
“If you encounter a flooded roadway, turn around and find an alternate route,” the warning says.
The river is expected to fall below flood stage by early Wednesday morning.
The Des Plaines River near Russell affecting Lake County and the Fox River at Dayton affecting La Salle County also are under the Flood Warning.
