Overnight Repairs on Dec. 11 Will Help Stabilize Kirk Road Bridge Pavement
Starting the evening of Dec. 11, 2015, Kirk Road will be reduced to one lane of traffic northbound over the Union Pacific Railroad Bridge.
Construction work hours will be from 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, until 9 a.m. Saturday Dec. 12. Construction will take place on Kirk Road from Cherry Lane to Illinois Route 38.
The overnight work will include:
- Stabilizing the north bridge approach pavement using high density foam to fill voids beneath the pavement.
- New Silicone Bridge Joint Sealer
The county asks drivers to pay attention to the new lane configurations and watch for equipment and workers entering and leaving the work zone.

About the Kirk Road Bridge
Ken Mielke, the project manager, points out that this work basically involves bridge maintenance and repair. However, the county is considering replacement of the bridge structure in the future, Mielke said.
The Kirk Road bridge spanning the Union Pacific railroad tracks, built in 1974, is in need of significant maintenance. Kane County Division of Transportation held an open house on the project on Oct. 28, 2015, at The Well Church, 33W835 Cherry Lane, Geneva.
The preliminary plan calls for improvements to the existing roadway, capacity at turn lanes, median and lane widths, and intersection improvements at Route 38.
