Top Stories of 2015 — No. 10: Carpentersville ‘Building a Better Tomorrow … Today’
- Editor’s Note: This is the first in a series counting down the top 10 Kane County Connects stories of 2015.
A Brief Intro
I have to admit, I’m proud of the list of top 10 most-read articles on Kane County Connects this year. They are stories that range from human pathos to brass tacks bricks and mortar, covering categories that include education, transportation, health, public safety and economic development.
I’m proud because two of the top 10 stories came out of our Progress 2015 series — articles that couldn’t have happened without the cooperation and participation of Kane County communities as well as the Kane County Development Department. Partnerships like that take a little extra effort and outreach but pay dividends, because they are clearly stories that resonate.
I’m proud because the stories were helpful to people. Two of the roundup stories were under the category of what I might call “news you can use,” stories that gained an audience because they were published at the right time and delivered information people wanted at that moment.
Finally, I’m proud of you, dear reader, for your good taste and good judgment — for clicking and reading stories that have a little depth, a little humanity and/or a big dollop of “good news.”
Our No. 10 most-read article of 2015 fits into that “good news” category.
No. 10: PROGRESS 2015: Full Steam Ahead for Carpentersville’s New Wal-Mart Supercenter
Economic development in Carpentersville is a priority for this historic community of more than 37,000 people. The village’s slogan is “building a better tomorrow … today,” and the village’s efforts are reflected in three major projects that are aimed at improving the local economy and building infrastructure to enhance residents’ quality of life and support community initiatives in the coming years.
Carpentersville’s “Big 3” development projects for 2015 include a new Wal-Mart Supercenter, a watermain upgrade to improve water flow from the water plant, and an upgrade to its waste water treatment plant.
