Top Stories of 2015 — No. 4: IDOT’s Diverging Diamond Interchange
- Editor’s Note: This is the seventh in a series counting down the top 10 most-read Kane County Connects stories of 2015.
When the Illinois Department of Transportation sent out a news release about the Diverging Diamond Interchange and the traffic delays that could go along with construction work, we thought that information might be of interest to Kane County drivers for a couple reasons: It’s a new kind of interchange, and a heck of a lot of us drive on I-88.
Turns out, there was a lot of interest, evidenced by the 5,202 page views for this article, which was posted Sept. 9.
The story might have been boosted a bit by the pretty darned cool IDOT Diverging Diamond YouTube video embedded in the post. One of the things that Kane County Connects can do that previous Kane County government newsletters weren’t able to do just a few years ago is embed interactive maps, photo galleries and video images.
Transportation stories in general tend to be well read, and the Kane County Division of Transportation has a lot of information to share. KDOT press releases are posted regularly on Kane County Connects, and the KDOT website contains a lot of valuable information, including traffic alerts, explanations of highway projects, an index of KDOT maps, data and publications in PDF form, links to bicycle/pedestrian initiatives and dashboard on performance measures.
