UPDATE: Many Downstate Roads Still Closed Due to Flooding

The Illinois Department of Transportation announces the OPENING of the following roads: Brussels Ferry is now running; IL 100 from Kampsville to the Pike County Line is open.

If you’re a Kane County driver heading downstate, it might be helpful to know that there are a number of major roads closed due to flooding.

The Illinois Department of Transportation announces the OPENING of the following roads:  IL 100 from west of U.S. 67 to IL 3 (Alton to Grafton).

These roads are still CLOSED due to the major flooding within the area:

  • Brussels Ferry
  • IL 3 truck bypass in Chester
  • Kaskaskia Street in Chester
  • IL 143 west of IL 255 in the Wood River Area
  • IL 100 fromGrafton to Pearl remains closed to through traffic
  • IL 100/96 intersection;and U.S. 67 southbound into Missouri is closed at the Clark Bridge over the Mississippi (northbound is still open).
  • Several Levee Districts within District 8 have installed flood control gates.  These efforts have closed IL 3 near Cora; and IL 155 west of Ruma.

Other Closed Roads

District 4

  • Oquawka Covered Bridge Rest Area Off of Rt. 164 , is closed due to flooding.
  • IL-78/97 closed between US-136 and US-24 in Fulton Cnty due to Flooding.
  • Dickson Mounds Road fromForgotten Rd to IL-78 closed in Fulton Cnty due to flooding.

District 6

  •  IL-100 south of Pearl to the county line is closed due to flooding. (Pike County)
  • IL-100 is closed between Frederick and Browning in Schuyler Co due to flooding.

District 9 

  • IL-3 between IL-151 and Jackson/Randolph County line is closed due to flooding. Follow marked detour. (Jackson County)
  • Cave-In-Rock Ferry is closed due to high winds. (Hardin County)
  • Kentucky has closed US-51, US-60, and US-62 over the Ohio River at Cairo.
  • Old Rt-IL-3 at Gale Pump House in Alexander Cnty closed due to flooding

The Department will continue monitoring State roadways in the affected areas of Illinois.  Flooding has or will require closure of State Highways and Ferries along the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers as well as several creeks and streams.

Over the next several days, we will provide updates, as warranted, when developments occur.Traffic control devices and directional signage, including dynamic message boards, have been deployed to guide motorists safely around major closures. Travelers are advised to consider alternate routes or allow additional time to travel known flood prone areas.
