Driving in Chicago This Weekend? Full Closure of Halsted Bridge Over I-290
The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today (Thursday, Jan. 27, 2016) that a full closure of the Halsted Street bridge over the Eisenhower Expressway (Interstate 290) will take place this weekend, beginning, weather permitting, Friday, Jan. 29.
The closure is necessary to pour the bridge deck on the Halsted Street bridge, as part of the ongoing Jane Byrne Interchange Improvement Project.
Starting at 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, the Halsted Street bridge will be closed to motorists and pedestrians until 6 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30. Motorists will be detoured to use the Morgan Street bridge.
The Halsted Street entrance to The Chicago Transit Authority Blue Line UIC-Halsted station will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday until 4 a.m. Monday. CTA riders will be detoured to the Peoria Street Bridge for access to the UIC-Halsted station, which will be open to CTA customers. CTA riders can also use the station’s Morgan Street entrance.

Project Summary Harrison Street West and Halsted Street Bridges
Jan. 11, 2016, Update
The contractor has completed the stage 1 bridge deck demolition at Halsted Avenue. The contractor has also started the parapet and overhang demolition of the Harrison street bridge. The 60″ watermain removal and replacement work has also started. In addition, the contractor continued locating tunnels for filling. Project Summary: The contractor mobilized and completed the installation of the stainless steel bulkheads and grout filling at Gate Shaft No. 2 located at Michigan Avenue and Pearson. The contractor also located the tunnels on Harrison, Halsted and Van Buren.
