Love Pets? Want to Be a Vet? 4-H Offers ‘Canine Connection Club’ for Kane County Youth
Do you know a Kane County youth who loves pets, wants to learn about animal training, or is an aspiring veterinarian? The 2016 4-H Canine Connection Club will provide education and experience in dog behavior, proper pet care and possible careers.
This new 4-H special interest club from University of Illinois Extension is a short-term, six-week program focused on dog behavior, care, feeding, breeds, 
sports, careers and more. Designed for youth ages 10 to 18, members will learn to be better caregivers and trainers through fun, hands-on activities, all led by volunteers from the Lyons Township Dog Training Club.
“This opportunity is for young people who love pets or want to pursue a career in animal science,” said University of Illinois Extension Educator Donna Nuger. “The club meets Boy Scout Dog Care Merit Badge requirements and Girl Scout Animal Helpers Badge requirements, as well as follows the 4-H Dog Care curriculum.”
The group will meet for six consecutive Tuesdays from 6:30 to 7:10 p.m., beginning Jan. 26 at the Odeum, 1033 North Villa Ave., in Villa Park. Register online at web.extension.illinois.edu/dkk. Cost is $30 per youth, which also includes the annual 4-H program fee. Registration closes Jan. 15.
