The 10-week Citizens Academy is taught by seasoned sheriff’s deputies and Park District officers. It provides  citizens a behind-the-scenes perspective of all aspects of law enforcement. Each instructor develops his/her own class curriculum, addressing subjects such as crime prevention, identity theft, scams/fraud, gang identification, communications, domestic violence, patrol procedures, investigation procedures, accident reconstruction and death investigations.

Students will also get the opportunity to see various demonstrations including the K9, SWAT, and Bomb Tech demonstrations, as well as tour the Kane County Sheriff’s Office Adult Justice Center.

The Kane County Citizens Police Academy is a program designed to spark the enthusiasm needed for community involvement, as well as to strengthen the ties between both departments and the community. Its intent is to educate citizens on the challenges that law enforcement officers face on a daily basis, which makes it easier for the departments to work together with the community to find realistic solutions to neighborhood problems.

The Kane County Citizens Police Academy is free and operated through the hard work, dedication and commitment of its volunteer officers.  A criminal background check is conducted prior to admittance.  To pre-register for the Spring 2016 Session, complete the Kane County Citizens Police Academy Form.
