The Kane County Sheriff’s Office has filed multiple charges against a 41-year-old Geneva Township man for allegedly discharging a firearm during a domestic dispute Sunday at his home.

According to a Kane County Sheriff’s Office report, deputies were dispatched at around 6:45 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 17, 2016) to a residence in the 0N600 block of Keegan Drive in unincorporated Geneva Township for a report of a domestic dispute.

While deputies were still responding to the residence, they were informed that a subject fired a gun inside the residence, the report said. Deputies along with officers from Geneva and St. Charles police departments arrived on scene. Deputies were informed that all parties had exited the residence, with the exception of an adult male, later identified as Andrew Deliman.

Deputies were able to make contact with Deliman, but he refused to exit the residence, the report said. Deputies were eventually able to enter the residence and take him into custody without incident.

The initial investigation indicated that Deliman got into a verbal argument with his sister regarding a wrestling match he had with her 15-year-old son. At some point during the verbal argument, he pushed  her. As the dispute continued, everyone who was inside the residence went outside, the report said. While he was alone inside the residence, Deliman obtained a handgun from a safe in the residence and fired a shot inside the house.

“The initial investigation does not indicate that he aimed the gun at anyone,” the report said.

Deliman was transported to Delnor Hospital for an evaluation and later brought to the Kane County Adult Justice Center.  The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized the following charges against him:

• One count of reckless discharge of a firearm
• Two counts of domestic battery of an insulting or provoking nature
• One count of domestic battery
• One count of disorderly conduct

The charges against the Deliman are not proof of guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
