Enjoy ‘Bikes Vs. Cars,’ Free Popcorn and Great Discussion at 2016 Green Night Out at the Movies
Join the Batavia Environmental Commission in Batavia City Hall Council Chambers with your friends and family Saturday, March 5, for Batavia’s eighth annual Green Night Out at the Movies.
The Batavia Environmental Commission and Confident Aire provide an evening of free entertainment: a green-themed movie, free popcorn and drink for those who bring a reusable cup and bowl, an expo featuring local eco groups and businesses and a lively discussion about the topic of the movie afterward.
Bikes vs Cars depicts a global crisis that we all deep down know we need to talk about: climate, earth’s resources, cities where the entire surface is consumed by the car. The bike is a great tool for change, but the powerful interests who gain from the private car invest billions each year on lobbying and advertising to protect their business. In the film we meet activists and thinkers who are fighting for better cities, who refuse to stop riding despite difficult riding conditions in their cities.
Members of the Batavia Bicycle Commission will be the featured speakers after the movie.
“We are fortunate to have such a strong and active Bicycle Commission in our community,” said event organizer Carolyn Burnham. “They will answer questions and talk about Bicycle Commission initiatives including the Bicycle Friendly City, Safe Routes to School and the Bicycle Friendly Business program. They will also discuss what we need to do in the future to continue to make the Fox Valley a great and safe place to ride our bicycles.”
