It’s T.R. Vs. Dr. Sam! Celebs Compete in Farm Bureau’s ‘Checkout Challenge’ Benefit

One of Kane County’s top educators will go head-to-head against one of the Kane County’s most interesting and outspoken board members Feb. 25 in the 15th Annual Kane County Farm Bureau Food Check-Out Challenge Shopping Spree.

Smith, District 9 County Board representative and chairman of the Kane County Agriculture Committee, in a five-minute non-perishable-grocery shopping spree to benefit a local food pantry of their choice.

Since their inception, Kane County Farm Bureau-sponsored shopping sprees have donated tens of thousands of dollars in groceries to local food pantries. The shopping spree complements KCFB’s Harvest for All program, where farmers and non-farmers contribute crop proceeds, cash and in-kind donations to food pantries of their choice.

In 2014, the hunger relief efforts of Kane County Farm Bureau members earned the association the Service Club Philanthropic Award from the West Suburban Philanthropic Network and a County Activity of Excellence Award from the American Farm Bureau Federation.

Reporters and photographers are encouraged to attend. Kane County farmers will be available for interviews at the event. The Food Check-Out Challenge is sponsored by Kane County Farm Bureau.

About the Harvest for All Program

One hundred percent of the crop, cash and in-kind contributions to Harvest for All are directed to local food pantries of the donor’s choosing.

Harvest for All encourages local farmers, Farm Bureau members and consumers to support hunger relief efforts. Through Harvest for All, local farmers are being asked to donate a portion of their harvest to benefit a local food pantry. How to Help

  • Make a tax deductible monetary donation
  • Donate an acre, or bushels, of the proceeds from your harvest.
  • Designate fields that can be gleaned after the harvest, or excess from your farmers market stand.
  • Volunteer your time or community group to glean crops from local farm fields, or glean excess produce from area farmers markets.
