Kane County Law Library Unveils New Website, Self-Help Legal Center
“We help people find answers and are open to all.”
That’s the first thing you see on the home page of the new Kane County Law Library & Self Help Legal Center website, the latest upgrade for Kane County’s user-friendly law library.
Kane County Law Library personnel worked in conjunction with the Kane County Information Technologies staff to design a new website, with the goal of quickly directing people to the individualized information they need.
The website’s URL is http://www.kclawlibrary.org, and the library’s slogan, “We help people find answers & are open to all” is featured prominently in both the look and feel of the new site. Created in responsive design, the website offers a user-friendly display through your mobile device, tablet or computer screen.
Now, visitors to the website can find quick links to some of the most often sought information in Kane County, such as locating an attorney, accessing Local Court Rules and finding legal forms. There are also three quick reference icons on the new site — “I am representing myself,” “I am a legal professional” and “I want to find … ” to help guide those visiting the site to the area most useful for them.
Director Halle Cox says while the new website will be another layer of support for searchers of legal information in Kane County, it is in no way a substitute for the in-person guidance law library staff can provide to the general public and to legal professionals.
“The new website is only one of the many resources the Kane County Law Library offers to help individuals navigate the legal arena, and we hope you will find its redesign as user-friendly as we consider the staff at our library to be,” she said.
The new website will alert visitors to breaking legal topics, such as the recent changes to the divorce and parenting laws as well as terminology and links to one-of-a-kind forms such as a recent Parenting Plan encompassing the new changes in the Family Law and Marital Act.
Kane County Law Library & Self Help Legal Center served nearly 6,000 individuals last year. This year, Cox hopes the new website will provide helpful resources to the online community.
“The goal,” Cox says, “is to not only be the most user-friendly law library in person, but online, as well.”

About the Kane County Law Library & Self Help Legal Center
Named “the most user-friendly law library” by the Kane County Chronicle, the Kane County Law Library & Self Help Legal Center is located within the Kane County Judicial Center and is open to all. The library houses the county’s core of legal research materials, including print products and online databases. Librarians are always available to guide people to appropriate resources.
Funding for the library is maintained primarily through a $19 fee from every new civil case filed with the Circuit Clerk’s Office.
