• KCAC’s Adoptable Pet of the Week is written by Tecla Metzel of Kane County Animal Control.

The name Memphis conjures up images of the blues, Graceland and southern hospitality. The city is located 533 miles from Chicago, but you don’t need to go that far to bring a little Memphis into your home.

Our adoptable pet of the week is an orange-striped domestic short hair named Memphis that came to Kane County Animal Control along with his brother Tuxie on one bitter, cold day in December. Their cat carrier was waiting at the front door of the KCAC shelter when the staff came to open the building for business.

Despite his abandonment, Memphis exudes warmth and sweetness and craves attention. He loves to sit on your lap and gives little cat kisses while he’s snuggling with you. He has a more dominant personality than some cats, so he would do better in a home paired with more submissive felines.

Memphis would enjoy a home where he will receive lots of love and attention, because he will be sure to give the same in return!

 Vitani and Hobbs Find Their Forever Homes

Vitani and Hobbs will be sharing this Valentine’s Day with their new forever families. Hobbs had been at KCAC for over a year and was one of our older feline residents. Congratulations Vitani and Hobbs! You deserve the best!

Summer Goes to Forever Family

Summer, a small golden retriever mix with a big personality, was adopted last week by her forever family. Congratulations, Summer, we’re so proud of you!

As a follow-up to the last few pets of the week, Angel is still waiting for his forever family to come find him. Also, Lionel, the potty trained, pot-bellied pig, is still available for adoption. His fee is $25.

And Mittens is quietly waiting for someone to take him home so he can share his Valentine’s Day with them.

All Kane County Animal Control adoptable cats and dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all vaccines including rabies. They are tested for feline leukemia/FIV and heartworm. The adoption fee for dogs is $200 and $100 for cats.

About Kane County Animal Control

It is the duty of the Animal Control Department to:

• Ensure that all domesticated dogs and cats over 4 months of age are vaccinated against Rabies and have a Kane County Rabies Tag.
• Ensure that all reported animal bites are given precautionary attention in relation to the possibility rabies infection.
• Ensure that pet owners are instructed on proper procedures pertaining to animal bites and enforce adherence to these procedures.
• Contain loose\stray dogs in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
• Investigate nuisance dog complaints in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
• Investigate complaints of neglected and\or abused dogs.
