Aurora police are investigating an early-Sunday-morning, single-car crash in which a 33-year-old Aurora man was killed and a 27-year-old female occupant was injured.
The preliminary investigation indicates a 1996 Volkswagen Jetta was traveling south on Farnsworth Avenue at about 2:04 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 7, 2016, when the driver apparently lost control and went off the roadway just south of Indian Avenue and proceeded to hit a residence in the 500 block of N. Farnsworth Avenue. The force of the crash caused the male occupant to be ejected from the vehicle. Police arrested a female occupant following a brief foot pursuit.
The male occupant, later identified as Obed Cruz-Hernandez of Aurora, was pronounced deceased at 2:43 a.m. at Rush Copley Medical Center, according to a Monday-afternoon release from the Kane County Coroner’s Office.
The female occupant, identified as Stephanie Figueroa of Streator, was treated for her injuries and released.
Figueroa was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following the crash.
“Additional charges may follow as the accident is still being investigated by Aurora police investigators,” the Aurora Police Department said in its news release.
