Kane County Division of Transportation upgrades for flashing-yellow signals on Randall Road move into the north part of Geneva and the south part of St. Charles next week.

Starting Wednesday, March 16, 2016, crews will start removal and replacement of traffic signal mast arms and equipment on Randall at the intersections of Bricher Road, Prairie Street and Oak Street.

To provide minimal traffic disruption, the work will require closure of the side streets from 8 a.m. to about 3 p.m. on the schedule indicated here:

Randall Road traffic will be allowed to flow without stopping at the intersections while the traffic signals are being worked on during the days indicated below. Motorists will not be allowed to turn off of Randall Road during the closures of the side streets and are advised to use IL Route 38 and IL Route 64 as alternate routes for east/west travel.

For north/south alternate routes and access to retail areas along Randall Road, motorists are advised to use Peck Road, as well as retail entrances along Randall Road.

KDOT officials ask drivers to pay extra attention to modified access routes to businesses along Randall Road at Prairie Street. Access to the retail buildings west of Randall Road at Prairie Street will be allowed by right turn only from southbound Randall Road. Access to southbound Randall Road will only be allowed from eastbound Prairie Street.

No left turns will be allowed at the intersection of Randall Road and Prairie Street.

Work in the intersections will be conducted at only one intersection at a time in order to minimize the impact to motorists. Changeable message boards will be placed in several locations to provide advance warning to motorists of the intersection closings.

On the day of an intersection closure, the process will include:

• Setting up barricades, cones and traffic-control to prevent access to the side streets.
• Placement of new wiring and equipment on the mast arms.
• Adjustment of the wiring in the traffic controller cabinet.
• Testing of the new equipment.
• Removal of existing mast arms and equipment.

Temporary lane closures along Randall Road will be required to accomplish this work. Drivers are asked to watch for flaggers and workers while traveling through the construction zone. Motorists should expect delays and increased travel times during the process, and KDOT asks that you consider alternate routes during the work.

Upon completion of the work at Prairie Street and Oak Street, the new traffic signals will include a flashing yellow left-turn arrow. This flashing yellow arrow will allow motorists to turn left after yielding to oncoming traffic and pedestrians. Traffic waiting to turn left will receive the protected left turn with a green arrow while oncoming traffic has a red light.

While both directions of traffic have a green light, motorists waiting to turn left will receive the flashing yellow arrow indicating that they may turn only when it is safe to do so.
