Aurora Fire Museum Co-Founder, Curator David Lewis Retires
The Aurora Regional Fire Museum has announced the retirement of David Lewis, a co-founder, curator, board member and a longtime friend of the fire service.
“His dedication and passion in preserving the history of the Aurora and surrounding fire departments within the walls of the museum will truly be missed,” Fire Museum officials said in a Monday, Feb. 29, news release.
Lewis said he will miss the museum, but he is excited about the “skills and fresh, new approach” of the museum leadership.
“The Aurora Regional Fire Museum has been my life’s work for nearly 25 years,” he said. “I am encouraged by the direction of the new board members and staff; their progress and enthusiasm is refreshing.
“In the last few months alone, I’ve had the pleasure of seeing members of the Curatorial Committee draft much-needed revisions to the collections policy and procedures. Members of the newly formed Marketing Committee have a well thought out vision and direction, and I am excited about the programs and ideas being pursued by the members of the Education Committee.”
The museum already has begun the selection process for a new executive director.
Lewis’ retirement was effective Feb. 25, 2016.
