ECC Holds Series of Free Events to Celebrate Women’s History Month

Elgin Community College will hold a series of events and activities throughout March during its month-long celebration of Women’s History Month. All events are free, open to the public, and will be held at ECC’s Spartan Drive Campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin, unless otherwise noted.

Women’s History Month is presented by the Women’s History Month Committee, African American Women’s Subcommittee, Student Life Department, and Global and International Studies Taskforce.

Here is a list of events during the Women’s History Month celebration:

An Immigrant Woman Roundtable

  • DATE: Tuesday, March 8
  • TIME: 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • LOCATION: Building B Community Room, Room B181

Listen to women around the world discuss their stories on being an immigrant, the challenges they face, and how the presidential campaign plays into their everyday lives. Refreshments will be provided.

African American Subcommittee Luncheon

  • DATE: Wednesday, March 9
  • TIME: 12 p.m.
  • LOCATION: Building E Dining Room

Hear from three guest speakers about how women in public service can make a difference in the community. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at tickets.elgin.edu.

Soup and Stories

  • DATE: Tuesday, March 15
  • TIME: 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • LOCATION: Building B Alumni Room, Room B182

Well known for championing progressive causes, Eleanor Roosevelt is an exceptional example of a woman in politics. This program explores her impacts made on America.

Women’s History Month Inspiring Tea

  • DATE: Thursday, March 31
  • TIME: 1 to 3 p.m.
  • LOCATION: Building B Community Room, Room B181

Nominate someone at ECC as an Inspiring Woman and join them for tea, treats, and lively conversation. Nomination forms are available in Student Life, B173. Forms are due by Wednesday, March 18.
