Fatal Crash: Car Hits 67-Year-Old Pedestrian on Aurora Side Street

Aurora Police are investigating the death of a 67-year-old Aurora man who suffered fatal injuries Friday night after being struck by a pickup truck as he crossed an East Side street.

Aurora Police Department LogoGeorge Edwards of the 1500 block of North Farnsworth Avenue, was hit around 6:15 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2016, as he was crossing Farnsworth at the intersection with Marshall Boulevard. The pickup, a 1996 Chevrolet, was being driven by Guadalupe Luna, 75, of the 200 block of Beach Street, Aurora.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Edwards was walking west when he was hit by Luna, who was driving south on Farnsworth in the curbside lane. Edwards was taken to Presence Mercy Medical Center by Aurora Fire Department paramedics and was pronounced dead at 8:28 p.m. There were no outward signs of alcohol or drug use. Luna was ticketed for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

An autopsy on Edwards is scheduled for Monday, March 14 at 9:30 a.m. at the Kane County Coroner’s Office in Geneva.

The area along Farnsworth where the crash occurred has a posted speed limit of 35 mph and was closed for about five hours while officers from the Aurora Police Traffic Unit investigated. Volunteers from the Aurora Emergency Management Agency assisted on-scene.
