Homeless Man Killed in Single-Car Crash Monday in Aurora

Investigators from the Aurora Police Department’s Traffic Division are trying to determine the cause of a single vehicle crash early this morning in which an 18-year-old man was killed.

Aurora_Police_badgeAccording to the preliminary investigation, Bryan J. Westcott Jr., who was homeless, was driving a 2002 Dodge Ram pickup truck southbound in the 300 block of Woodlawn Avenue at around 12:10 a.m., when he left the roadway and struck a tree. The force of the collision caused the vehicle to flip, Westcott was ejected, and the vehicle went on to strike an unoccupied home before landing on top of Westcott. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:39 a.m. Westcott was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

The home that was struck was severely damaged. The speed limit on that stretch of Woodlawn Avenue is 25 mph. The investigation is continuing and an autopsy is pending at the Kane County Coroner’s office in Geneva.

There were no signs of drugs or alcohol at the scene, and there were no other injuries.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call Aurora Police Traffic Investigators at 630-256-5330.
